Problem Statement
The success of an organization requires it to maintain a conducive work environment whereby each of the employees can comfortably achieve the organizational goals. In the case of hospitals, medical practitioners require a conducive work environment in order for them to provide the best quality healthcare to patients (Arnetz, Sudan, Fitzpatrick, Cotten, Jodoin, Chang & Arnetz, 2018). However, some hospitals have been experiencing an inconducive work environment as a result of nurse bullying. This occurs in the case whereby the senior nurses pressure the novice nurses into performing medical procedures without guidance. Some also result in the novice nurses taking on extra shifts on behalf of the senior nurses (Sauer & McCoy, 2017). The overload of work results in fatigue, hence making it difficult for novice nurses to effectively take care of patients. In addition, other healthcare professionals also face bullying in the different departments of the hospitals (Ulrich, Gillespie, Boesch, Bateman & Grubb, 2017).
Impact of The Issue
Therefore, I plan to work on this project because a change needs to be made in the hospitals to ensure that students are not discouraged into pursuing the nursing career (Skarbek, Johnson, & Dawson, 2015). As well, the creation of awareness about nurse bullying will result in health centers taking initiatives that will ensure the best quality health care to patients. Nurses will be required to delegate and oversee duties to the novice nurses to ensure that they gain the necessary experience before they can be allowed to attend to patients on their own (Granstra, 2015). The issue of nurse bullying does affect not only the patients but also the wellbeing of the bullied nurses and their future. There are high chances that if a nurse is bullied, then they might end up bullying other nurses in the future of advocating for anti-bullying campaigns. Therefore, it is important for healthcare centers to address the issues in order to avoid medical errors associated with the bullying.
