Overview of the study
The article explores the importance of clinical research nursing. The research sought to bridge a gap in clinical research nursing given that most practicing nurses lack specialized research knowledge. Consequently, they are unable to interact within a research team environment effectively. The researcher chose quantitative research methodology where participants participated in an online survey. They were required to describe their awareness level and understanding of the clinical research nursing and the impact of clinical studies on senior baccalaureate nursing students’ nursing practice (Alsleben, Alexander & Matthews, 2018). The researcher used a novel research instrument to collect data from a sample size of 93 participants. The content of the online survey was derived from the Clinical Research Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice. The results showed that most of the nurses specialize in providing care to clinical study participants. Yet, they lacked knowledge on how to participate in and support research teams effectively. The nursing experience was linked to the in-depth understanding of collaboration in clinical nursing research teams during the study. Furthermore, it was associated with a career in clinical nursing research. The article concludes that nursing entry courses should provide learners with clinical research exposure and equip them with research collaboration skills needed under patient care clinical study programs (Alsleben, Alexander & Matthews, 2018).
