The relationship between spiritual beliefs and political ideologies is a theme that often occurs. Spiritual beliefs impact political ideologies and even policy process in cases where religious movements push for certain ideologies such as pro-life activism that is against practices such as abortion. Individuals with specific spiritual beliefs ingrained in their mindset and join political arena always use these beliefs to guide their decisions. For instance, when one holds a spiritual belief of loving one’s neighbor would follow a political ideology that encourages fighting for the rights of the poor (Maller, 2012). In this case, such a political activist could dedicate his efforts to helping the poor because of the spiritual beliefs that one holds regarding the love for one’s neighbors. When supporting policy change, individuals who hold spiritual beliefs are inclined to support the side that mirrors their beliefs (Maller, 2012). For example, Christian organizations have been at the forefront calling for poverty eradication through policies such as education for all.
