MY REFLECTIVE JOURNAL ON NURSING CHANGE PRACTICE
The course has helped me gain a number of skills in nursing and healthcare. The healthcare industry is fast evolving and the best way of approaching this situation is coming up with new approaches to healthcare. These new approaches should be more patient centred. Patient-centred means coming up with the strategies that will increase the patient experience. However, in my practice, I have come to realize that it is difficult to implement a change in the healthcare setting. The barriers can arise from the hospital, the community and in some cases the patient CITATION Rut17 \l 1033 (Ruth, David, & Zahra, 2017). It takes courage for implementation or a new approach to be put into use.
Creating a healthy working environment at the healthcare setting requires the intra-professional collaboration of the nurses. The collaboration will also help you learn more about healthcare practice CITATION Mar171 \l 1033 (Marijn & Margaretha, 2017). The focus of my capstone project was on reducing the nursing shortage. When the registered nurse, registered practical nurse and the nurse practitioner work together, there are high chances of curbing the shortage problem in nursing. In my change proposal, I incorporated the action of the registered nurses working closely with the nurse practitioners to reduce their workload. The registered nurses will also help the practitioners to learn a lot once they work together.
The existence of a strong healthcare delivery system will ensure high-quality healthcare services. In the US, there are a number of measures which have been put in place to ensure an improvement in the healthcare service system. For example, to resolve the nursing shortage in the US, the government has introduced a number of programs intended to increase the training of nurses CITATION How17 \l 1033 (Howard, 2017). One of the weaknesses I identified in all these strategies is their failure to provide an immediate solution to the shortage of healthcare problems. Most of the strategies put in place will take long before they are effective. In the issue of the nursing shortage, I realized that coming up with a way of reducing the workload of the nurses would increase their effectiveness at the place of work. It would also increase their job satisfaction. Therefore, most of the suggestions that I offered in the change proposal were focused on immediate solutions.
Technology also plays a great role in improving healthcare outcomes. However, there are a number of factors that have hindered the adoption of health information technologies in healthcare facilities.
