Business Planning in Public Health
Currently, there have been improved rates of mortality and morbidity that are associated with nosocomial infections. Specifically, the hospital acquired infections are experienced at the intensive health care unit (ICU) than any other part of the hospital. Moreover, the problem needs serious attention to be addressed in order to eliminate it or prevent its occurrence. Therefore, the work presents describes a plan that will be used to give a clear explanation of the problem and the necessary research that needs to be done to help in its solution.
Executive Summary
Nosocomial is the term used to refer to any disease that is acquired by a patient during the time the patient is admitted into an hospital. The term is also known as hospital acquired infections (HAIs) and it is likely caused by organisms that are resistant to antibiotics. In-fact, the infections are not present or incubating in the patient before the time of admission but acquired within 72 hours after hospitalization. Some of the common diseases that may arise due to the problem include Clostridium difficile, pneumonia, urinary tract infection, and central venous catheter which is a disease associated with bloodstream infections (Dasgupta et al., 2015). However, the national medical commission (NMC) has tried various strategies to settle the problem that include refunding the medical expenses that patients receive on the infections. The strategy is majorly applied to cancer patients who mostly spend most of their hospitalization time at the ICU.
Therefore, I will develop a plan that is aimed at reducing the rate of nosocomial infections instead of the strategy applied by NMC of compensating those who are infected. Generally, prevention is better than cure and can help in reducing the rate of mortality and morbidity experienced at the hospitals. The reason for the project is based on the observation of factors that have been seen to cause HAI and how they can easily be avoided through infection surveillance. The factors which have been seen to reduce the occurrence of the infections include improving hygiene level at the medical center, identifying patients at risk of HAI, and following every standard precaution laid out. The outcome of the proposal will help in evaluating whether the reduction of the factors that cause the infections will reduce morbidity and mortality rates in hospitals, especially the ICU.
The components of the plan include the abstract, introduction, methodology, recommendations, and conclusion. Specifically, the plan will give a description of the various precautionary measures that can be adopted to eliminate the problem. The measures will include isolation, patients at risk, observing hand hygiene, following prescribed standards, and following precaution based precautions such as contact precautions, airborne precautions, and droplet precautions (Mehta et al., 2014). Also, the study will include the target population and the sample elements as well as sample size. Similarly, the plan will contain the methods of data collection which is more preferred for the study such as interview, observation, and questionnaires. Also, the kind of data that ...
