From this case study, it is evident that 76-year-old Mr. P has cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure for quite a long time. Cardiomyopathy is one of the most severe cardiovascular diseases. It makes it difficult for the heart to pump blood to all parts of the body and can lead to death. There are two main types of the disease: restrictive cardiomyopathy and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (Sliwa & Hilfiker-Kleiner, 2018). Treatment includes medications, heart transplant or surgery. The chance is that the disease will show no signs or symptoms at an early stage, but once the condition advances, the patient may complain about shortness of breath, vomiting, dizziness, chest discomfort, fatigue, and blurred vision.
Approach to Care
In the case of Mr. P, the disease has been prolonged due to lack of proper treatment. He now has over four pitting edema and moist crackles on his lungs. He also has difficulty with breathing, which is possible to deal with if the patient begins doing some exercises. Ideally, he should go out early in the morning and must spend up to thirty minutes in the park while doing jogging, walking, yoga or other types of physical activities. As he has grown old, his doctor may not recommend him advanced workouts; instead, he may ask Mr. P to rely upon the brisk walk, lifting of weights, swimming, and jogging. The patient should not opt for any of these exercises on his own. He should first talk to the doctor and explain the things. Frequent breaks in between the workout are good to be considered in order to avoid overexertion.
