Introduction
One of the challenges that the nursing profession is facing is the nursing staffing problems. Hiring nurses with the right skills mix is associated with improving clinical outcomes in different nursing environments (Kim, Harrington & Greene, 2009). There is increased demand for nurses, while there is also a nursing shortage and other problems that affect nursing. When the hospital administration fails to address nurse staffing problems this affects the nurses motivation and increase the risk of burnout. Addressing nursing staffing problems affects patient outcomes, quality of care, nurse productivity and patient safety.

The problem
Nurse staffing problems is one of the issues that affects health institutions and in recognizing the problem efforts are made to improve the quality of care. There are various factors that affect nurse staffing, including shortage of qualified nurses, nurse retention, nurse education and other issues. Nurses prefer working environments where their contribution is appreciated and rewarded, and the nursing shortage is still a problem while retention and reducing the turnover rates is a priority to address nurse staffing problems.
The setting or context
The nursing staffing problems can be observed in the hospital settings when caring for patients who are hospitalized. It is easier to use quality indicators to assess how staffing affects the quality of care, patient safety and clinical outcomes (Cho et al., 2017). On the other hand, when patients spend a few hours or discharged within a few days, this unlikely to yield a lot of information on the impact of nurse staffing levels.
Description of problem
Nurse staffing a problem that has received attention, but the more researchers need to focus more on the way to improve the quality of care to reduce errors (Kim, Harrington & Greene, 2009). Even with the shortage it is not appropriate to broaden responsibilities for the nursing assistants as they would take more tasks and responsibilities that they cannot undertake. Typically, in hospitals nurses are the largest share of health practitioners, and when there is inadequate staffing this affects the quality of quality of care. In the hospital, the administrators seek to drive down costs, improve efficiency the quality of care while ensuring that there are adequate staffing levels. However, achieving all this has been difficult when the nurse to patient ratio is low, and this increases the nurse workload.
