A common fungal infection among athletes is the jock itch. The fungal infection is characterized by a red and itchy rash in the warm and moist areas of the body, such as the groin and inner thighs. It is also quite prevalent among overweight people or those with eczema since they sweat a lot. Jock itch is treated with over-the-counter (OTC) or prescription antifungal creams, powders, ointments, sprays, or gels containing clotrimazole, terbinafine, miconazole, or tolnaftate (Gardner, 2022). All these antifungal agents work by slowing down the pathways critical for the fungi’s sterol synthesis or changing the permeability of the polyenes of the fungal cell.
