Dentistry has been my passion since I was a child. Now that I am in grade 12, I am ready to take the next step in my journey to becoming a dentist. I am ready to apply to college and begin my undergraduate studies in dental medicine. Consequently, I’ve done overview research on this prestigious course and came up with the following report.
Dentistry is the branch of medicine that deals with diagnosing, preventing, and treating diseases, disorders, and conditions of the oral cavity, the maxillofacial region, and the adjacent structures and tissues, including the teeth. Dental care is provided by dental professionals such as dentists, dental hygienists, and dental therapists. Dentists are qualified medical doctors with further training in dentistry (Chiappelli, 2019). They diagnose and treat dental problems. Dental hygienists provide preventive care and clean teeth. They also educate patients on how to maintain good oral hygiene. Dental therapists provide basic dental care, such as fillings and extractions.
Dentistry is divided into five main branches: Preventive dentistry, Restorative dentistry, Cosmetic dentistry, Orthodontics, and Oral and maxillofacial surgery. Preventive dentistry involves promoting good oral health and preventing dental disease. Restorative dentistry involves the repair of damaged teeth and the replacement of missing teeth. Cosmetic dentistry involves the enhancement of the appearance of teeth. Orthodontics deals with correcting misaligned teeth and jaws. Oral and maxillofacial surgery deals with diagnosing and treating conditions affecting the mouth, teeth, jaws, and face (Kaurani, 2020).
