Transforming the Old into New
In the 21st century contest, mathematical modeling has become a more wide-ranging and dynamic method that improves hands-on learning. Various problems and activities lead to refurbishing through mathematical modeling when teaching mathematics. One major problem is forgetting mathematical concepts by students after learning. In a mathematical class, the teacher can incorporate movement where student can use their whole body to learn fundamental mathematic skills. For instance, to teach the foundations of multiplication tables, teachers can guide students into using synchronized clapping routines to count or run around the classroom. By doing so, the brain has at least two pathways to store information by incorporating specific body motions. This is an example of a mathematical modeling concept where repeated motor function routines linked to math skills can enhance students' memory (Pogue, 2018). Incorporating movement in mathematics is one of the mathematical modeling concepts we will analyze in this paper.
Movement in mathematics focuses on getting students to use their bodies in learning fundamental skills. Through this, the body is reinforced in a strong matter such that it can easily connect mathematic facts in the brain. An example of a movement in mathematic activity to enhance my memory is “make a circle”. In this activity, desks are moved away, and the teacher throws a stack of cards in the air. The card should have an algebra problem on the front and the answer on the back. In the activity, students are expected to grab the cards and work out the answer to the question on the front of the card. The teacher then finds the student with the correct answer and forms them into a circle moving from one question to another in that order.
