Observe your mentor teacher in your chosen content area delivering lessons and interacting with students. While observing one specific lesson, take notes using the “Observation, Interview, and Reflection” template .
Part 2: Interview
Outside of class time, interview your mentor teacher on his or her instructional strategies. Keep in mind the most recent lesson you observed and the pedagogical approaches used during this lesson.
Include the following topics in your interview:
What effective, research-based pedagogical strategies does your mentor teacher typically use during instruction?
How does your mentor teacher connect instruction to students’ backgrounds and interests?
How does your mentor teacher differentiate instruction to meet the needs of exceptional students, including students with gifted abilities, students with disabilities, as well as English language learners?
How does your mentor teacher integrate technological tools into instructional planning and day-to-day professional practices?
You do not need to submit interview notes to the LMS, but you are strongly encouraged to take notes to inform Part 3 of the assignment.

The teacher engaged various pedagogical approaches to meet both the personal and the needs of the students. One of the most effective approaches used was constructivism. According to Okada et al. (2019), people learn through experiences and reflection in this theory. The teacher put the students at the center of all the learning activities. The students were ready to learn, and at the same time, the teacher built significant and friendly activities to facilitate the learning activity. Okada (2019) describes the theory arguing that younger children engage in activities physically while the older ones take symbolic and abstract opinions from the lessons learned. The other pedagogical approach used was social constructivism. The theory is a refreshing combination of two priorities; student-centered and teacher-guided. A study by Okada et al. (2019) shows that it entails various teacher models such as questioning and pair class construction. Pairing the students creates an opportunity for social interaction.
On the other hand, the mentor teacher used multiple strategies in instruction. Besides, an effective teacher needs to implement innovative and creative methods to accommodate all students' needs (Lumpkin, 2016). The first strategy used was visualization. It entailed engaging, practical learning experiences to help students understand how the knowledge gained at school is useful in the real world. For instance, they used interactive boards to display pictures and also made some local trips. The second strategy was cooperative learning. The teacher encouraged the students to work together despite the differences in their capabilities. Lumpkin (2016) argues that the method helps students develop self-confidence and enhances their communication skills.
