The extent to which people influence or control their actions, thoughts, and feelings according to standards is called self-regulation (Thomson & Jaque, 2017). Self-regulation is an essential skill that allows people to cope with certain behaviors and actions when faced with adversities. Furthermore, self-regulation assists individuals in remaining focused and attentive during these times. However, it is not easy to be self-regulated, and adults still need help with this skill. It is because when people’s emotions are high, they tend to make impulsive decisions without thinking about the consequences. As a result, children must be taught how to self-regulate, and their parents and teachers play an essential role in teaching them self-regulation.
Parents and teachers must teach their children to be capable of adapting (Morawska et al., 2019). As cliché as it may sound, change is the only constant in the world, and children will undergo many changes as they grow. However, some changes may be complex for children to accept because they are unfamiliar with them or do not want to leave their comfort zone. That is when parents and teachers will remind the children of the importance of adapting to changes. The children must be reminded that they must deal with the changes that are positively occurring around them. The children must be reminded to adapt to the situation and make the most of it because each new beginning has something new to offer. For instance, if a family must relocate, the child must transfer to a different school. This situation may be difficult for the child because the child has already formed friendships at the previous school and may feel at ease there.
