A Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) comprises individuals with various specialties, each of whom plays a vital role in identifying and meeting the needs of students with health impairments or disabilities. This paper aims to identify the members of the MET team and their roles for Scott, a six-year-old first-grade student with symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Because of his aggressive and disruptive behavior, unwillingness to follow directions for social or play activities, and tendency to isolate himself (Oudeans & Boreson, 2002). Therefore, Scott requires assisting people with various specialties to address his behaviors.
The MET team
The MET team must include teachers, the principal, the school counselor, the physician, and his parents. Each member serves a unique and essential purpose for Scott. Scott’s educational needs must be identified by the teachers, with the assistance of the school principal. They must know what assessments to administer to identify Scott’s strengths and weaknesses accurately; with this ability, they will be able to successfully fulfill their roles as members of the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team. Thus, the teachers must identify Scott's strengths, weaknesses, and educational gaps. Meanwhile, Scott’s behavior is monitored by the school counselor, who assists with any issues that arise, and helps Scott cope with daily stress in school. The school counselor must identify Scott’s stressors and assess his feelings and emotions. His physician will closely monitor Scott’s health and any underlying issues.
