Teachers and global education leaders play a crucial role in shaping learners' educational outcomes. They must rely on evidence-based teaching strategies to create a lasting, positive impact on learners. The brain-targeted teaching model provides a guideline to help teachers teach based on how the brain learns. Based on brain research findings, the model provides six brain targets that can be leveraged in teaching students. In my future profession, I will integrate the physical environment and emotional climate brain targets to influence students' learning outcomes. This paper discusses some ideas I will use to practice the two brain targets.
Physical environment
This brain target involves creating an appealing physical learning environment. According to Hardiman (n.d.), approximately 90% of the brain's sensory input comes from visual stimuli. As such, creating a physical environment that stimulates the brain and fosters learning is vital. One of the ideas I will use to stimulate the brain and promote learning is to regularly bring newness or freshness into the classroom. My main focus will be to design flexible seating arrangements in the classroom that allow students to move around. According to Seegers (2020), physical movement in the classroom stimulates the brain by increasing blood and oxygen flow to the brain. As a result, students who can move around the class are more alert than those with limited movement. I will have different seating arrangements for different purposes. For instance, during a reflection part of the lesson, students will sit in a circle to encourage sharing. During group work, students will sit in groups of three or four.
