Genre refers to the classification of literary work by its form, content, and style. Kindergarten children have their literature, including picture books, novels, short stories, plays, and poetry. The genres offer them the opportunity for enjoyment and satisfaction. There is numerous variety of genres written for varying purposes and audiences. Some are memoir, autobiography, biography, hybrid, poetic texts, crafts, and fantasies.
The classroom is the only place where children can learn the aforementioned genres. While other genres can be learned in secondary and college levels of learning, prekindergarten plays a crucial role in ensuring the children are aware of these forms of literature as they grow (Fountas, 2017).
