Sonnet is my favorite poetry genre. It is a popular classical form with fourteen lines written in iambic pentameter. Sonnets utilize one of the many rhyme schemes and adhere to a standard structured thematic organization. I like sonnets because of their rigorous language, concentrated focus, and versatility. Sonnets achieve rigorous language through the specific parameters poets work under when composing the poems. The parameters ensure that poets are disciplined because every word in a sonnet poem requires thoughtful consideration, resulting in a satisfying word pattern.
Sonnets have a concentrated focus where the poet elaborates a single idea well. It is relatively short, meaning that a poet can concentrate on a single emotion and exhaust it.
