Iago is the more interesting character in William Shakespeare's Othello Moor of Venice. Iago has evil plans in the play whose motivation the readers do not know. The first reason he is an interesting character is that his motive in the entire play is unclear. He is the source of most of the conflicts in the play, yet he pretends to be good, trying to help solve the conflicts he creates through proxies. When Othello secretly marries Desdemona (ACT I, SCENE I, line 182), who Roderigo was chasing after for relationship, Iago begins a series of plans to break the relationship. The audience wonder why Iago would be against his boss marrying when the woman married is not her girlfriend or a relative.
