While I do believe that luck may play a part in contributing to one's success, I firmly believe that with enough skills and talent, a person can make their own luck. The advantage of having a set of skills and talents is that succeeding in life is likely to be more than depending on luck alone. Luck happens by mere chance, and there is no guarantee that one will get lucky. On the other hand, with skills and talent, one can make advances towards desired careers or actions and make their own luck. The following discussion uses examples from my own life and that of my friend to show how a set of skills and talent have contributed to making luck.
Hypothetically speaking, luck cannot be measured. One does not know when luck will come by or whether it will come at all. However, with the right skills and talent, one can utilize the opportunities that come their way to make their own luck. Here is an example. When I was in elementary school, I used to play chess. I loved the game so much that I invested a lot of time learning how to play it and make the right moves. After I had become competent at it, a great opportunity came up. There was some competition for elementary school pupils in which the winner would bag a great reward. I enrolled in the competition, and luckily enough, I emerged as the winner.
