The Iran nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive plan of action (JCPOA), was signed in 2015 by Iran and several other world powers. The United States was among the powerful countries, and the highlight of the deal was that Iran had placed restrictions on the nuclear program and got the sanction relief in exchange. The agreement would also help in preventing conflicts between Iran and its rivals (Jett, 2017). However, President Trump withdrew the United States from the deal in 2018. Consequentially, Iran resumed its nuclear activities in 2020. Fortunately, President Joe Biden stated that the United States would return to the deal on the condition that Iran had to follow the agreement. From the video, the conversation is educational, and it encourages freedom of expression as the panel expresses their various views on the deal. It varies from the technical perspective to the engineering perspective.
I like the perspective that Professor Maggie shares on the characteristics, similarities, and differences between the triumph of diplomacy and dangerous precedent. The take on how the united states seem to run demands throughout the whole deal. In the years 2006 and 2010, Professor John explains how the United States sponsored and vouched for the suspension of nuclear enrichment.
