Speech on feminism advocacy in social media
Hello everyone, I am delighted to speak on the issue of feminism advocacy in social media. Generally, women are underrepresented in the media; however, social media has motivated a more even playing ground permitting many women from different backgrounds and countries to be heard with or without power. Social media has brought a lot of benefits for feminism advocacy. As stated by Emma Watson, 'everyone should have equal access to opportunities, but equality does not exist.' To end gender inequality, everyone should be involved, including men and boys, to lobby for change. There have been successful social media campaigns promoting feminism. For example. Emma Watson, he/she campaign, which intention is to invite men and encourage them to stand for gender equality and women rights
Background
I believe social media is playing a critical role in feminism advocacy. It connects people across the globe, giving them a platform to air their voices and spread the word. Social media is where women and feminists can create and design and have equal and affordable access to technology to challenge discrimination and sexism (Nagarajan, 2016). I think social media is the only platform many women can interact with, connect, and demand accountability on the various issues affecting them today. The realities of women's lives globally are mobilizing for freedom of gender and sexual expression. Social media has opened many platforms for women to organize their rights, such as addressing online violence. It encourages solidarity and emphases for women to share their experiences.
