The topic of sexuality and gender is almost as old as human civilization. In the prehistoric era, communities were organized with very distinct roles for human beings based on their sexuality and gender. These roles persisted in social norms and did not have any significant changes until the age of information. Then, in the philosophical age, particularly during the industrial revolution, things started changing. The social norms that had hitherto persisted started being questioned. The changes have continued until the modern-day, where it is generally agreed that only certain gender roles cannot be exchanged (Barker, Chris, and Jane, 301).
