Throughout human history the first question parents have asked at the birth of a child has been whether the child is a boy or a girl. The answer to this question impacts the socialization of that child for the rest of his or her life. For example, from birth children are assigned the colors of pink or blue and given specific gender related toys depending on their sex.
Think about how you have been socialized in relation to sex and gender. Consider your parents' and media's influence over your life as a male or female as well as the broader impact of society on masculinity and femininity.

Introduction
Different societies have had a variation in socialization between sex and gender concepts. However, a standard comprehension of sex is that it explains the biological characteristics for both males and females assigned at birth (Oakley, 2016). Gender is socially constructed, and it entails the roles and behaviors for both men and women. Gender roles stem from understanding the gender concept.

Sex is associated with physiological and physical attributes such as genetic expression, chromosomal activity, hormone functions and levels, and sexual expression (Oakley, 2016). In general, sex can only be categorized as either male or female. There is a variation in the biological characteristics that define sex and how they are expressed in humans and animals. On the other hand, gender entails the roles and responsibilities constructed in society, the behavior and expressions, and the specific identities of men, women, boys, girls, and diverse people. Gender strongly influences peoples' perceptions, how they interact and behave, and how power and resources are distributed. One appalling concept about gender is that it is not confined or limited to a binary such as a girl or a woman, or boy or man (Thompson et al., 2016). Gender is not static; instead, it is continually existent and can change over time.
