The primary difference between the perception that people are born into a culture, and the perception that a person becomes a member of a culture through a process of learning is that the former holds that humans are born with the genetic imprint of a specific culture. In contrast, the latter holds that interactions with friends, family, and strangers instill a culture in a person (Lustig & Koester, 2013).
