Cultural Nuance in Communication

Essay Instructions:

In your text, Communicating for Success, read the following chapter:
Chapter 5: “Nonverbal Communication”
Chapter 5 discusses how nonverbal communication is similar to verbal communication, but also differs from it. In addition, you will learn seven functions of nonverbal communication. When the verbal and nonverbal communication are in conflict, nonverbal communication is perceived by many as being more believable than verbal communication. In addition, nonverbal communication is influenced through such things as cultural and gender differences. You can improve your nonverbal communication competence by encoding messages that demonstrate awareness of the norms and expectations of those with whom you are engaging. You can also improve your competence by decoding nonverbal cues without putting too much weight on any one cue over another and evaluating the message in relation to the context and previous experience with the person.
