In the contemporary business environment, almost all businesses contribute to pollution through their operations and supply chains. From harmful gases released from distribution trucks, burning of fuels, and inappropriate wastes disposal, industries have considerably increased global pollution. As such, enterprises have an essential role in reducing pollution since they produce the most massive emissions.
In 2004, Jeffrey Immelt – the GE CEO, launched a radical Ecomagination strategy that focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, building efficient machines that produce cleaner energy, reducing clean water usage, and increasing research and investment on clean technologies at the same time increase revenues while doing it. Ten years later, the approach has generated more than $200 billion in revenues, reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 31%, and improved intensity by 32%. In reality, the corporation has been expanding the program by forming partnerships to curb the rising environmental and sustainability problems in ways that make monetary sense.
