Five Strategies to Manage Water Pollution
The hydrologic cycle is a complex process that follows the path of water in all its states from the atmosphere to the oceans and continents. Our planet’s water is always in movement, and the water cycle includes the continuous movement of water on the surface, in the atmosphere, and below the surface as groundwater.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey’s most recent statistics, the United States uses around 322 billion gallons of water per day. What strategies might be employed to ensure that our water sources are neither polluted nor exhausted? If you were appointed water czar of the United States, what programs would you initiate to produce an equitable and sustainable pattern of water use? Defend your decisions.

As an appointed water czar of the US, I would integrate five strategies to manage water pollution. Firstly, I would educate the population on pollution issues. Research into water quality environmental issues education is very significant as they will be aware of what they are addressing. Secondly, I would recommend the reduction of water pollutants like single-use plastics, oil, chemicals, and fertilizer. Fertilizers and chemicals cause salinity in water (Gleeson, 2011). This will prevent pollution before it even begins. Thirdly, treating wastewater will lower about 80% of wastewater dumped into water bodies annually. Fourthly, managing filter runoff from farms into waterways will reduce pesticides, fertilizers, and other pollutants like greenhouse gas emissions from the water. Greenhouse gas emissions global cause climate changes that disturb water storage in the different world compartments (Vanasupa, 2012). Fifthly, containing and cleaning spills like oil spills with booms and skimmers will reduce it from water bodies. Lastly, laws and regulations are a better way of preventing and reducing water pollution, the federal, state, and local laws will set restrictions o...
