Wegman’s As a Learning Organization
Wegman is a learning organization since some of the characteristics in it fit into the description of a learning organization. One of these characteristics is that there are elements of organizational learning in Wegman’s. Organizational learning is one of the ways in which people in an organization set out to acquire knowledge (Larsen, Mclerney, Nyquist, Santos, & Silsbee, 1996). This kind of knowledge should be useful to the people in the organization. In addition to that, the knowledge benefits the individuals that are learning in the said organization.
How does Wegman’s learn
Wegman’s learns mainly through interaction with the people in the organization. The main beliefs in Wegman’s are that relationships with the employees and with customers are productive. Through these interactions, the people in the organization are able to learn different things from each other. In addition, the organization values the growth of its employees. For Wegman, growth is best realized through a learning process. As a result, there are various programs, aimed at promoting growth, which is one of the main ways that people there learn (Bellinger, 2004).
The main thing learnt was customer relations. Here, the importance of relationships formed with customers at various levels was highlighted. From this, it is clear that customers make an important part of the business, and thus have to be respected.
