Descriptive statistics summarize data from samples, and information about samples typically infers about the population characteristics. Descriptive statistics is necessary in explaining basic properties of variables. Descriptive statistics helps to analyze information in a scientific manner and present it in a way that can be easily understood (Comrey & Lee, 2006).
Measures of central tendency are one of the basic properties of variables, and this includes Mean, Median and Mode. The mean refers to the average, median is the middle value in a set of data while the mode is the most common value occurring (Comrey & Lee, 2006).
Measures of variability show the extent to which scores are dispersed from a group; the commonly used statistics are standard deviation, interquartile range, range and variance.
