Getting to know the consumer is a critical part of every business, and consumer research perfectly serves the purpose. Consumer research is useful in identifying the potential consumer and their preference that is then used in customizing products and promotion strategies to suit their needs. Skincare has been part and parcel of human existence for centuries and has given rise to the lucrative business of the beauty industry. By the wake of the 20th century, the sale of skincare products had gone large scale and major brand names emerged. The driving force towards the widespread use of skin care products is the desire to have a smooth and supple skin resistance to the aging effects. Extensive researches have established more about the preference for skincare products, the emerging markets, and the buying patterns of different demographics, cultures, and even race.
The female gender is the most prevalent consumer of skincare products. Research from Statista established that 65 percent of American females used skincare products as opposed to 37 percent of their male counterparts in the year 2017 (Kunst, 2019b). There are numerous motivating factors toward the prevalence of skin care products among women. There is a fabulous belief among women that brighter and supple skin color presents both social and economic advantages, and to reap these benefits, women are left with no other choice than to use the skincare products that promise to make the idea a possibility. Additional reasons for the prevalence of use of skin care products among women include protection against harmful UV lights and concealment of the signs of aging, while others use the products to simply look pretty and boost their confidence (Kunst, 2019a). Although the preference among the male gender is relatively low, the reason for use is pretty much the same.
