Plants animals are examples of eukaryotic organisms that rely on cellular respiration to produce food or energy respectively. Plants, for instance, rely on photosynthesis to produce glucose on which animals feed. A process called chemiosmosis takes place within the cells as part of the respiration demands of eukaryotic cells. In plants, chemiosmosis generates 90% of ATP realized during the aerobic catabolism of glucose (Lec_Notes, 2021). When glucose is catalyzed, electrons are removed from the hydrogen atoms originally part of the glucose molecules. These electrons are used to reduce oxygen molecules to oxygen ions.
