Fritz Lang's Metropolis makes for a compelling watch. The film lives up to its title, and a particular scene stands out for me, the Cityscape. In this scene, the viewer gets to see Lang's real idea of a Metropolis where vehicles are moving on roads built high up in the air, planes crisscrossing between buildings, and thousands of cars driving down below. But this is just part of it. The buildings in Lang's version of a metropolis are tall and close to one another. Lang's view of a metropolis is genuinely futuristic.
The lighting in this scene is beautiful. Lang recognizes that he needs to stress the idea of a futuristic city...
