Go Tell It: Civil Rights Photography

Essay Instructions:

1. Select a work from the gallery, or one from a museum from any of the suggested sources and evaluate in terms of form and content.
2.  Two double-spaced typed pages for each review with a total of four typed pages for the two reviews.
3.  When visiting the gallery, museum or sculpture park you will notice the overall content of the show, exhibition or installation with reference to form, content and  media.
4. There is usually posted information with regard to the artist. You will want to include information on the artist with your evaluation. Check to see if there is free literature at the gallery or museum that you can take with you. 
5. In the introduction state the vital information with regard to the gallery, dates of the show, artist and media. This introduction to the reader should include, what where and when.
 6. The body should begin with the chosen work, title, dimensions and media. The artist's background can be here or in the introduction. Evaluate the work in terms of the visual elements, design principles and content. Description should include the size, color texture and shape. Describe the subject; what is it? What is the purpose or function of the work? What is your reaction to the work? Why did you select the work? 
7.  The conclusion should act as a summary of the paper.
8.  Galleries: For those students outside the Seattle area select a major gallerie (or a museum), for students living in Seattle/ Tacoma select art works from the following gallery, you may also select two works from the Sculpture Park, Seattle Art Museum, Frye Museum, Henry Gallery, Tacoma Art Museum, Museum of Glass, Bellevue Art Museum or any combination of these:

Introduction
The chosen exhibition is a photo, entitles as “Go Tell It: Civil Rights Photography”. The Photo is still on display in the Seattle Arts Museum at 1300 1st Ave, Seattle, Washington State. The photo was exhibited between the 3rd of April in 2016 and January 2 in 2017. The photo exhibit was taken by Third Floor Galleries that presented about the past activities in the United States that carved a cultural event. The media is a photographic medium, presenting the significance of events that seeks to show the modern generation regarding the sacrifices of the past through the field of arts. This literary photo exhibit was free during the period of the display in the Seattle Arts Museum for several months until it was replaced by another medium.
The chosen art piece is a photo, which is considered a masterpiece of art as the main subject because it presents a sociological content of the past society where there were societal issues that became a political milestone in the United States of the America. The photo was taken in the 1960’s where the photographer was in an ongoing rally together with the activists in one of the major public areas in the United States. As the title goes, it talks about the civil rights movement, presenting the significance of transforming the political stature of the United States in terms of enhancing new laws and practices that intensified understanding and norms of the present community.
