High Renaissance: This is a form of Italian art that is at the top of Renaissance art and a combination of all the activities that explore the quattrocento. Harmony and balance are the qualities that greatly characterize it. Movement, however, vital to this form of art, is always portrayed to be of dignity and exhibits calmness as well. This provides a point of view to the viewer of the art. The picture is completely self-contained and balanced for it to reach the desired level of beauty. Its parts are harmonized completely such that adding or deducting anything from the art would completely destroy it (Castiglione, 2002).
Mannerism: This form of art emerged between the end of high Renaissance art and the baroque style of art. It contains a high preference for technique and style. The style emphasized exaggerated aspects of art that are more artificial. It also portrays a highly cultivated elegance and technical facility that appears to be self-conscious. It is also characterized by the sophisticated indulgence of the abnormal. For instance, the figures in mannerism art have small heads, abnormally elongated graceful arms as well as styled facial features. The poses and the figures also appear to be difficult and exaggerated. The linear and deep perspective space of high Renaissance art is replaced by a flat and abnormal one in Mannerism art. This makes the figures look like they have been arranged at the front of a flat background with measurements that cannot be determined. Mannerism pushes exaggeration and contrast of art to the limits (Anderson, 2015).
