1. List one legitimate, in your opinion, source where your federal tax dollars are being well spent.
One of the areas where federal tax dollars are being well spent is in the safety net programs, which form about 9% of the total federal budget. These programs comprise all low and middle-income family assistance programs not included in Social Security or major health programs like Medicare and Medicaid. Examples of these safety net programs funded by federal tax dollars include unemployment insurance, abused and neglected children programs, low-income housing assistance, and food stamps (Schmidt et al., 2021). I believe this is good spending because it focuses on the government taking care of its vulnerable population.2. (Pork spending)In the 1.5 trillion dollar government spending bill passed by Congress on March 9, 2022, pork spending returned to Congress. Texas is slated to get over 280 million dollars in federal funds for schools, road construction and maintenance, police, and many other local needs as part of this government spending package, which contains billions in congressional earmarks. More than 140 projects around the state will benefit from this bill, including acquiring San Antonio community colleges lab equipment, constructing LGBTQ+-friendly economical senior homes in Dallas, and constructing a Mahatma Gandhi museum based in Houston (Wermund, 2022).
