Clear and Logical Thesis Statement - Self-Evaluation:

Consider the following questions when developing the thesis statement for your essay. The answer to each of the five questions below should be yes if you have drafted a quality thesis statement.

This metacognitive process needs to take place in both parts 1 and 2 of the worksheet.

For example, you may find that you have a great idea for one of the sub-topics but were not able to locate a peer-reviewed journal article to support that sub-topic. It would be important to determine if perhaps there is another sub-topic the research is pointing to that you could shift toward instead. This would then cause a change in the sup-topic in part 1 and then the inclusion of that resource you found to support in part 2.

1)      Is your topic stated in the thesis?

2)      Does your thesis include your position?

3)      Does the thesis include three subtopics?

4)      Do all three sub-topics help to prove why your position is the most logical stance to take within the argument?

5)      Were you able to find a peer reviewed journal article within the GCU library per sub-topic?
