The middle ages were when Europe was experiencing rapid changes in its religious, political, and economic structure. Therefore, each of these sectors would play a significant role in the events during this period, when the roman empire collapsed, this spelt doom for Europe. However, it also presented an opportunity for the bold and ambitious. After the battle of Hastings, feudalism emerged in England, and it was not long before other economies in Europe followed suit. For the next two centuries, feudalism would determine how kingdoms and empires were led and how wealth was distributed. Between 1000 and 1300, feudalism led to an economic and political structure where monarchs were rulers and Lords their aids and counsellors. Common subjects were not allowed to determine their rulers as this was left to the Lords.
