One major social factor that led to the decline of refugees in the United States of America was the “America First Policy” (Beorn, 2014). This was a policy that dictated that the United States government should help its needy people before engaging in others. This was a randomly adopted policy that made the US not host any refugee. The government argued that they already had enough problems of their own to assist others. For the government to pass the refugee policy, it had to go through the judicial system. Some members in such committees had no interest in taking in refugees had the bill never saw its way to implementation. One other major fear the government had was that the refugees were Nazi spies (Beorn, 2014). These factors affected people who wanted to save their families. Take an instance of Kurt Klein who wanted to save his family from Germany. He was unable to do so since these policies affected him.
What the government, religious leaders and philanthropists could have done to help the refugees avert the frustration.

In as much as there was much resistance to host the Jews, religious leaders, the government and philanthropist ought to have found a way to help the escapees. The government could have taken the Jews in, even if it meant employing them for their living. This would not only have saved the people but also added the workforce hence growing the economy. The government also would have made policies that made it possible to assist the refugees since they had really undergone enough suffering. The Church has the sole responsibility of helping the needy. The clergy could have helped set up centers that would take in the refugees and take care of them. Philanthropists ought to have pleaded with the lawmakers to allow the distressed Jews.
