Unemployment in September and October
The stability of the economy rests on the capability of the government and companies to maintain a low unemployment rate and provide a secure working environment. However, the disruption caused by the pandemic has impacted employment significantly. In September the unemployment rate was 7.9% but it reduced to 6.9% in October. In September, the number of people who lost their jobs was 9,135,000 bringing the total number of people not in the labor force to 100, 599, 000. Although the number of people who lost their jobs in October slightly reduced to 7,712,000, the total number of people not in the labor force still stood at 100, 058, 000. Despite many people losing their employment, a total of 1, 065, 000 new employees joined the labor force within those two months (537, 000 in September and 528, 000 in October).

However, the data shows that in September, unemployment among black people was 12.1% compared to 7% of white people....
