Because of the occupation of the early Spanish in California, most of the cities and place-names were derived from Spanish language origins, which are mostly for saints. Hence, many place-names in California start with “San” or “Santa.”
Cerritos, LA County - Cerritos is a city in Los Angeles county and its name was derived from the Spanish for “little hills” because of its topographic characteristics.
Orange County - Orange county was named to honor the grandson of King George III, William V of Orange.
