Rogerian and Toulmin Arguments
Arguments are a part of life and it is vital that people understand how to engage in arguments in an enlightening, engaging, and enjoyable manner. In order to do so, argumentation is a skill that must be embraced and developed. Two commonly used models of argumentation include the Rogerian and Toulmin arguments. On the one hand, Rogerian arguments, based on the tenets of Carl Rogers, are aimed at achieving common ground in an argument. As such, this model supports an objective assessment of argument claims and positions in ways that see both the pros and cons of said argument. On the other hand, Toulmin arguments, named after Stephen Toulmin, are focused on dissecting the nature and logic of arguments through practicality and logic in reasoning.
