In a recent report by PadMapper, an online rental site covering Canada and US, rents are shown to go down to 10%-12% and 9.1%-14.1% for 1-2 bedrooms in Toronto and Vancouver, respectively (Heaven). The decline, brought about by a halt to immigration under COVID-19 has, moreover, shifted interest to – and driven up rents in – historically less expensive cities including, for instance, Barrie, ON, Abbotsford, B.C. This pattern has, from a financial service marketing perspective, important potential implications and consequences for real estate market in Canada.
