Reading Chapter 5 has been informative since it helped me understand the counselor's responsibilities and the client's rights. Even though conducting self-assessment has various discoveries regarding myself, the most important discovery was how an ethical practitioner would likely impact the interventions I would likely have on my clients (Corey et al., 2018). For instance, before reading this chapter, I was not considerate about my ethical measures. In most instances, when addressing the clients, I was grounded and did most things for my benefit. However, I did not realize I was doing wrong since I expected to behave like most healthcare professionals. Moreover, since most of my clients did not raise any concerns, I thought I was on the right track. This instance made me think that having ethical standards would likely have a small impact on the clients.
However, conducting self-assessment has changed my perspective regarding being more considerate of my clients. I have understood that there were many instances where I was violating ethical standards. Furthermore, I have understood that other clients do not have to raise concerns for me to follow the ethical standards since I am supposed to follow these standards willingly. I would be more considerate regarding their feelings than I was previously by employing ethical standards when offering them the service. This process will help me improve the quality of service I offer my clients since they will feel that their welfare has been cared for.
