3 The short-form personality test revealed how to correctly classify personalities. I learnt that no two-individual fit the same mould despite exhibiting similar characteristics. Classifications are only broader terms with certain criteria one fits into. In the same category, one can still be differentiated according to how many degrees of a character they own, making them distinct. This is evident in people classified as extroverts, yet their degree of extravert character is not the same. The test also reveals how in-concrete terms like average mean. A person with traits in the average mid-section only has attributes that fall in the middle forty percentile of almost any population hence not very informative. One also learns that you have qualities in almost every domain. There is no singular dimension in which you lack traits. The quality of the trait is what determines which categories you will identify most with. Therefore, this purports the notion that the test descriptions are subject to change and opinions at any one time, and one should not base their life on the test results.
4 One of the reveals I got from the test was how other people interpret certain traits in my personality. I gathered that other people receive traits that make me diligent and meticulous as leadership and hard work. One of the high scores I had was in assertiveness. I tend to take charge of situations and lead group projects. To me, these are natural tendencies. Learning that this is embedded in my personality helps me understand that other people who don't have the same affiliations may just have different personality traits, and it is okay. This insight is crucial as it will help me balance how I feel when working with other people. It will help me know why I am showing up as I am in that space and not feel guilty for overstepping. It will also allow me to accommodate others because I know their level of interest does not equal their level of proactiveness.
5 Another insight was that introverted tendencies do not always mean that one is depressed or lacks social qualities. Learning this helps me understand that it is okay to be alone and away from overstimulation and loudness. This does not equal always having negative feelings like anger, depression and social anxiety. This will allow me to carve out space for myself and accept that I don't always want to be excited or overstimulated. This means it is okay to turn down a loud, noisy night at the club for a movie at home alone.
