Scenario # 1: Race discrimination
Approximately fifty former McDonald's franchisees are suing the giant company for racial-related discrimination. It claimed that McDonald's denied the claimants the same opportunities as their White counterpart operators, which contributed to them being pushed out of the system (Lucas, 2020). Most importantly, the black plaintiffs also alleged that the company's practices violated the federal anti-discrimination laws and that the firm also breached their contracts. Besides, the plaintiffs operated nearly two hundred restaurants and had left the franchise between 2010 and 2020. The lawsuit is filed in a federal court in Illinois.
The situation affects the victim because the company treats people of different races differently. When people are discriminate are likely to become uncomfortable, which would quickly push them out of the firm and work with other industry players. Further, the burden and stress associated with discrimination can result in physical and mental toll, increasing psychological distress, and other mental-related problems. Besides, the bias would also affect the offending organization. It is because McDonald's may create a bad public image that would influence customer buying behaviors. Cases of discrimination affect society because they create a negative perception that there are superior to others, which justifies the unequal treatment of people.
