Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA): Characteristics and Domains
By this point, the historical foundation that supports current research and practice in applied behavior analysis has been laid. This week, you will explore the specific definition, characteristics, and domains of applied behavior analysis and how they support professional practice. For this discussion, please review the assigned readings in this unit.
Please respond to the following:
Define applied behavior analysis.
Describe the key characteristics of ABA. Be sure to include reference to the "seven dimensions" as well as other key characteristics of applied behavior analysis.
Discuss each of the domains of ABA: radical behaviorism, experimental analysis of behavior, applied behavior analysis, and professional practice. How are these interrelated and differentiated in the practice of applied behavior analysis?
Taking these domains into account, describe the role of a behavior analyst as a scientist practitioner.

Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is a scientific approach that uses different techniques based on behavior principles to augment the cognitive functioning of persons with intellectual limitations or mental conditions (Cooper et al., 2020). It is a scientific approach that uses experimental procedures to foster socially significant behavior.
According to Baer et al. (1968), ABA should be applied, analytic, effective, technological, behavioral, conceptually systematic, and capable of feasibly generalized outcomes. The applied dimension in ABA relates to the commitment to instituting behavioral improvements that improve and enhance individuals’ lives. The study of ABA achieves analytic thresholds when the researcher shows a function connection between the operational variables as well as a valid shift based on a specific measurement construct of the targeted behavior. The behavior dimensions imply that ABA interventions should target the behavior that requires improvement and can be measured and observed. Technological means that all ABA operative tactics are established and delineated with optimal clarity and detail to allow the reader to replicate the application based on such results (Cooper et al., 2020). Conceptually systematic implies practitioners can implement evidence-based approaches and instructional methods (Tatom, 2023). An effective ABA intervention should augment the person’s behavior functionally and practically. Lastly, the gen...
