Normative and Nonnormative Life Events and Their Effects

Coursework Instructions:

In Week 4, you will examine adulthood, which is roughly the time when an individual:
Establishes his or her independence
Graduates from college
Starts a career
Forms a long-term relationship
Gets married
In this week, we will look at normative and nonnormative life events and how they affect a person’s life during adulthood. In this week, you will also look at middle adulthood—a further division of adulthood because of the physiological changes that occur during this stage. If you ask people in their forties and fifties, most will say that they are unable to physically do the things that they were able to do in their twenties. At this time of life, they are prone to chronic illnesses and conditions, such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. One of the factors that you will examine is lifestyle choices and their effect on the overall health of an adult.
Your Learning Objectives for the Week:
Interpret the nature of geographic, gender, social, cognitive, emotional, and developmental factors during each period of development
Distinguish how developmental factors impact one another
Evaluate research, social, and diversity issues related to developmental psychology
Write a paper using multiple sources of information with the intent of demonstrating competence concerning the nature of development throughout the human lifespan
