The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate course learning outcomes, including linking organizational strategy and HR, identifying barriers and forecasting strategies.
This is a group assignment worth 25% of your grade. Refer to the grading rubric as your guide.
One grade will be assigned for the team, so an equal contribution is expected.
Working in virtual teams, you will choose a BC industry and create a human resources strategy. A list of BC sectors can be found on the Government of BC website. (Links to an external site.)However, you are not limited to this list. For example, you can choose a significant industry (i.e. accommodation and food services) or a sub-sector (i.e. hotels).
Assignment Instructions:
Describe the industry in BC, including an analysis of at least three environmental factors that impact HR over the next three to five years. What is the history of the industry? Who are some of the significant organizations that make up the industry? What can we forecast will impact the HR function of the industry?
Description of industry-wide human resource strategies to address the challenges identified in your analysis. How can the industry work collectively to address the human resource issues? Leverage what you have learned in the course, so be strategic, not operational.
Compile a professional document. The total project length, including any appendices, is a maximum of 10 pages (excluding cover page, TOC and references). Include the course, industry, names of all group members and the date submitted on the cover page. Include a table of contents, appropriate section headers and pagination to make the document easy to navigate for the reader.
Your submission should be well-written and follow the SFU citation and style guide for APALinks to an external site., including:

BC's high technology sector has been one of the best performing sectors in the province. The high-tech sector has been producing 6.6% of the province’s GDP as of 2019 CITATION Dan211 \l 1033 (Schrier, 2021). Its revenue rose to 34.9 billion in 2019, a 4% increase from the previous year CITATION Dan211 \l 1033 (Schrier, 2021).
Three environmental factors to affect HR in this industry in the next 3-5 years
Economic factors
The economy can affect the HR management in any company. Employees are affected by economic conditions such as inflation, recession, etc. In each of these conditions, the labor market changes to reflect the current economic condition. For example, during inflation, employees are more likely to push for higher salaries to match the increasing cost of living. Consequently, during an economic slowdown, there is higher unemployment, and companies can acquire labor cheaply owing to the high unemployment.
