Chapter 16 includes a lengthy example of Chief hallucinating. This isn’t the first time this has happened, of course. Our goal at this point is to determine how such passages function in the novel/what their purpose is (ex: for plot, characterization, conflict, theme, etc). In the process, we will characterize and analyze Kesey’s style. Please complete this work by Monday, April 6 @ 11:59 pm
First: Answer the following comprehension/analysis questions:
1 Why is Chief at the staff meeting?
Chief is at the staff meeting to carry his daily duties. He normally mops the staffroom during meetings held by doctors and nurses. chief is known as a deaf, but during the scandal in the ward when McMurphy attacked the nurse and doctors he is worried that people suspected him when he raised his hand on mc murphy. Mr. Bromden referred to as chief is being overlooked by everyone especially the nurse. Everyone is angered by his reaction as they are now sure he has been hearing their secrets when they think he's not.

2 What is the green seepage that the Chief perceives? When does he see it? What do you think it represents?
When Mr. chief enters the staffroom, he finds an empty silent hall. It is not normal for him to find staffroom in such a quiet condition. As he walks inside the staffroom, he sees a green seepage peeping into the room through a small hole. He stares at the hole for some time and also tries to peep through it to see fog around it. The green seepage enters into the room to the floor as a green-ray. This green seepage represents safety. This day seems to be rough indeed, and even the nurse herself is seen reluctant to go for the meeting. Despite this bad atmosphere, greenlight shades the room as a sign of positive results at the end of it. Green in colors indicates safety. Therefore, that represents the safety in the meeting, and indeed we see at the end the meeting ends without wrangles as everyone thought.

3 At the staff meeting, after the doctors and the residents present their ideas about McMurphy, the Big Nurse says to one of them, "You are very, very wrong, Mr. Gideon." What is the effect of this statement? What is her theory about McMurphy? How did she manipulate the meeting up until this point?
Everyone in the meeting we see them against McMurphy, and they propose he should be kept in disturb ward. The nurse comes to defend McMurphy saying he is just affected by cowardice like any other man and he is not superhuman as they say. She says McMurphy just needs a little time and he will change. She adds that some days alone in the ward will bring back the normal McMurphy. The nurse talks in a surety voice and everyone is convinced but with low doubts.

4 What is the Big Nurse’s decision at the end of Chapter 16? Why do you think she does this?
