San Diego Police Department Corruption Culture
The police are bestowed with the power to guarantee the safety of American citizens. Such power is vulnerable to manipulation for unorthodox gains. In this context, the San Diego police department grapples with diverse officers’ accounts of power abuse. The expose focuses on sexual harassment motivated by fetishes. While such incidents warrant retribution, a corruption culture has developed in the police department such that the implicated officers do not suffer any penalties despite their immoral and illegal conduct. The corruption culture is sustained by diminishing the degree and severity of the officer offenses, superficial investigations, and the existence of a club in the department.
The investigator’s inquiry of the allegations of possible misconduct of the officers is met by an apparent diminishing of the severity of the offenses.
