1 Discuss the value of organized crime investigations by Presidential Commissions.
The President’s Commission on Organized Crime epitomized a just government by creating a national discussion on these aspects. The commission uses court or in-camera hearings to investigate organized crimes. It also provides annual reports that give attention to many organizations. An example of this is the 1987 report where the commission focused on the non-Italian or Sicilian organized crime organizations and lesser attention to gambling groups. This move shifted the attention to money laundering, narcotics, and labor racketeering. Due to this, more criminal penalties were given to the said crimes. Additionally, the commission was responsible for emphasizing the civil penalties, and this movement made the penalties more effective. Another example is the 1967 report where the Presidential Commission proposed laws that cover immunity and wiretapping, all of which have been authorized by the government. The 1987 report also reinforced the said laws (Albanese, 1988).
The Presidential Commissions also proved to be vital as it has a significant role in investigating money in funding an organized crime. More drug lords incurred drug penalties through the commission, and these were believed to have reduced the prevalence of drug trafficking (Albanese, 1988).

As a response, the U.S. government enacted “Plan Colombia,” a law designated to help decrease coca production in the country. The plan also aimed at reducing the revolutionaries in the country like the FARC, a guerilla group funded by the drug operations, which help the drug cartels get away with the law. The U.S. government also funded the Colombian police in the military to strengthen their forces in fighting against the Colombian drug cartels (Kirkpatrick, 2016).
Initially, there was a decrease in the number of users of drugs in the U.S. Consequently, it reduced the revenue of the drug cartels due to overproduction or increased in supply and decrease in demand. Additionally, the declaration of the War on Drugs of the United States has conflicted with the Columbian Drug Cartels, leading to a devastating outcome for both sides. The Colombian government, funded by the U.S., increased its police in military size. In response, the drug cartels also hired more shooters to fight the new government policies. To some extent, some of the drug cartels were destroyed, and a large part of the drug trade has stopped, especially after the death of Pablo Escobar. Despite this loss, eventually, the drug carte...
